LUDI NORMALNI LJUDI / CRAZY NORMAL PEOPLE

feature film
synopsis

This is a story about fifteen people that have too many things in common. They are frustrated, well-educated and they live in Croatia. Doctors, unemployed mothers, jobless intellectuals; they are the anti-heroes of  this  generational tableaux-film with a comedy touch.

Favourite scene I wrote

EXT. ON THE BANK OF RIVER MUR – DAY
The flow of the Mur river. Trnski holds a file and reads a poem that Carolina wrote. Carolina sits beside him; looking at him. She turns her head to the river to hear its hum. Trnski closes the file, satisfied. He looks at Carolina with a twinkle in his eye.
          TRNSKI
We should become blood-brothers.
          CAROLINA
     (laughing)
You mean in a heroic way?
          TRNSKI
Yes, like two Croatian heroes.
          CAROLINA
Hm…how shall we deliver it?
Trnski stands up and approaches the river. He collects some water in his palm and returns to Carolina.
          TRNSKI
Give me your wrist.
Carolina gives him her hand. First, Trnski splashes her wrist with water and then covers it with his own wrist.
          TRNSKI (CONT’D)
So, here we are. The water will
flow through our pores and melt
with our skin. We shall become
children of the same mother river.
          CAROLINA
As you said it, brother; I have
faith in your words.
          TRNSKI
And you should. Yes. I hope
you will still be here in
Graz when I get back.
          CAROLINA
Here…or there…who knows. I am
happy to be anywhere. And working.
          TRNSKI
Where should I send the copy of
“Danica” with your poem in it?
          CAROLINA
With my poem…
          TRNSKI
I will correct just a few
grammatical mistakes. Everything
else is how I have imagined it
would be.
Carolina feels embarrassed. She lowers her head.
          CAROLINA
It is better you give me your
address. I do not know where I
will be. Life changes here fast.
          TRNSKI
Where do you head to now?
          CAROLINA
Onto Schlossberg.
Trnski writes his address on the paper.
          TRNSKI
You climb the berg?
          CAROLINA
I climb the berg.

My favourite film quote

“He’s small potatoes.”

The Godfather: Part 2 (1974)
