UYUMSUZ / THE MISFIT

short fiction
first draft of the script

The Misfit is about a woman who wakes up in a dystopia where speaking has been banned and finds herself as the only person who’s able to speak. It’s a dystopic Kafkaesque story that raises burning questions about the freedom of speech, and its inevitable relationship with the collectivism and individualism. The apparent impossibility of personal salvation without caring others.

Favourite scene I wrote

EXT. IN THE WOODS – NIGHT

Our survivors, Murat, Erhan, Selen and the old guy, The Chief are walking in the woods of the Island. Then the group stops for a while. Murat is checking his back all the time to see if any zombies are following them. Erhan keeps filming the whole thing with his camera, while they were having a rest, Selen looks at Erhan and the camera and says:

SELEN

Stop shooting, Erhan! Why are you

recording all these, anyway?

ERHAN

I am going to post it on youtube.

SELEN

Like we have youtube anymore!

Selen turns her head to another direction with fury. Then we see Murat, trying to see the seaport. Their only hope is to reach at the seaport, because they’ve been told that the govt. forces are going to come and take them from there, but He sees nothing.

MURAT

Chief, are we trying in vain?

Will they really come to help us?

THE CHIEF

I really don’t know, son. They

may be coming or not and if they

are coming, I don’t know if they

will pick you up. Government is

so unpredictable. They can even

throw you into sea, you never

know.

Murat takes a look at the seaport desperately and says:

MURAT

No one is coming, I’m telling

you. We have reached here for

nothing. The island was

quarantined, it is so obvious.

Look, sun is rising and there is

still no move on. Cell phones are

dead. The world has come to an

end and we are standing here like

a dick, waiting for help. Why

hasn’t that helicopter we saw

earlier picked us up? They think

we are infected like others. If

Istanbul is secured, how on earth

will they let us enter the city?

God knows, where they have taken

those who tried to run away. They

left us all alone. Fuck my fate!

Through thousands of years of

men’s history, doomsday has found

me, man! It has found me! What

kind of fate is this!

Then he hears a voice from the woods. Everyone gets alarmed. Murat takes a look at his back and he sees his ex girlfriend Gamze (they lost her in somewhere, and she became a zombie).

MURAT

This is her! Gamze!

Murat walks away from the group towards the girl, Gamze. But she’s totally lost it, she’s a zombie now. Murat does not care, goes toward her. Erhan and The Chief tries to warn him!

ERHAN

Murat, stop!

THE CHIEF

Don’t you go there son! Stop!

Stop!

Then Gamze, his ex girlfriend bites Murat too, and eats his heart alive!

THE CHIEF

He’s gone!

ERHAN

I can’t believe this!

We see more zombies coming from the woods.

THE CHIEF

There are more! You guys, walk

away! I can deal with them!

ERHAN

But Chief?

THE CHIEF

GO AWAY!

SELEN

Run Erhan, don’t you stand there!

As Erhan and Selen are trying to run away, Erhan keeps filming and we see The Chief’s shooting at the zombies.

THE CHIEF

Come you scums! If I am afraid of

you, let the god make me one of

ya!

Chief kills couple of them but after he runs outa his bullets. He finds himself surrounded by zombies. While he’s getting eaten by zombies he turns his head to Erhan and Selen and says:

THE CHIEF

Come on, move! Send my regards to

Guiza!

Selen pulls Erhan on the arms and says:

SELEN

Run Erhan! Run!

They run away with their full energy! Then we out!
