Scriptwriter of the Month: Gligor Kondovski

December brings us a new and interesting scriptwriter – Macedonian Film Director, Screenwriter, Photographer, Music Composer, and professional violin player Gligor Kondovski.

Gligor was keeping busy this year and he has finalized two short films OLD SUITCASE and A NOTE, as well as a music album “Nightscape” with Vladen Drobicki.

Currently, he is working on a documentary with Revolution Productions and producer Dejan Miloshevski. To find out a bit more about Gligor, check his MTSW profile here and below you can check the trailer for A NOTE and read the short conversation with him.

• What makes the 5 films on your Top 5 list so special?

For me, movies from my list have deep messages regarding the time when they were made. Also, they have classical perception and sensibility of what is nonsense to do in a dynamic world. For real art, one needs time and sacrifice.

• Why did you decide to go into film?

I always wanted to be a part of the team behind the camera, to feel how it is to be a part of the team. I grew up with music and movies. I had my first photo camera in my home at the same time as my violin. I never quit from music, I just added film to my artistic life and made it time art completely.

• Commercial films or art houses?

Art house and for the last time Experimental cinema. If I decide to make Commercial films, I’ll rather go into marketing, than movies.

• How and when did you begin writing?

I wrote poetry and short stories when I was a child, but I had a jealous teacher in a school who never let me join the poetry group 😉 I wrote my first screenplay 15 years ago.

• Where do you like to write the most?

A lot of times, I write in my room with classical music on, but lots of times I feel like writing and working in general when I have guests, or with my family around me.

• What kind of music do you listen to while writing?

  1. S. Bach

• Where do ideas come from?

I stay with the theory that movies, and generally arts, are a part of an artist’s life. I will read some news and connect that with things that happened in my life and experience in life. Generally, movies are parts of my life and my opinions about political, social, and cultural events happening around me. They are combination of news from the world and my experience out of my country. When I write I already have music compositions in my head, or when I make music, I already have stories in my head. Many times, I could make a story from music composition or vice versa.

• If you could go anywhere in space and time, where would that be?

Somewhere in the Sphere.
